Two furnace estimates can be thousands of dollars apart without covering the same work. Before choosing a replacement for your Las Vegas Valley home, put the proposals side by side and ask each contractor to fill in the missing information. A lower price is useful only when you understand what it includes.
Write down the actual equipment
Ask for model numbers, heating capacity, efficiency rating and the included thermostat. “High efficiency” and “premium system” are descriptions, not specifications. If the proposal includes an outdoor unit or indoor coil, list those models too. Ask how the proposed furnace works with the cooling equipment that will remain.
Have the contractor explain the sizing method. Replacing the old unit with the same size without examining the home can carry forward an old mistake. Changes to windows, insulation or floor space are worth mentioning.
Compare the installation scope
- Removal and disposal of the old equipment.
- Required permit and inspection responsibilities.
- Venting, gas, electrical and condensate work, as applicable.
- Connections to existing ducts and any proposed airflow corrections.
- Access arrangements for attic or rooftop equipment.
- Startup testing, thermostat setup and homeowner instruction.
Ask which items are included, excluded or allowances that may change. A vague “as needed” line deserves a conversation before you sign. Keep the answers with the written proposal.
Separate the warranties
Manufacturer parts coverage, contractor labor coverage and workmanship promises can have different terms. Ask who registers the equipment, what paperwork you receive, whether maintenance is required, and which costs remain your responsibility. Do not assume a long parts warranty means free labor for the same period.
Compare the full cost and the process
Record the total installed price, payment schedule and how changes require your approval. If financing is involved, read the lender’s written terms and total repayment information; a monthly payment alone cannot tell you the total cost. Avoid comparing financing illustrations with different down payments or repayment periods as though they were identical.
At 32 Degrees, system replacement estimates are free. A diagnostic repair visit is a separate service with its applicable fee. Tell our office which appointment you need so there is no confusion.
Bring your questions. A proposal should help you make a decision you understand, without pressure to buy equipment you cannot compare.
