“I need my heater checked” can mean several things. You may be preparing for cooler weather, dealing with a furnace that will not stay on, or considering replacement. Telling the office which situation applies helps us book the right visit and explain the applicable charges.
Maintenance is for planned upkeep
If the system appears to work and you want seasonal attention, ask about maintenance. Mention any concern even if it seems minor. A new noise or occasional shutdown may call for diagnostic work beyond the planned maintenance scope.
Ask what the visit includes for your equipment type. A gas furnace, a heat pump and a hydronic system do not have identical inspection needs. Have the technician explain the findings and separate recommended repairs from routine upkeep.
Book a diagnostic visit for an active problem
If the heater will not start, struggles to warm the home, repeatedly shuts down or behaves differently than usual, describe that when scheduling. A diagnostic appointment is meant to find the cause. It does not mean every repair or replacement part is included in the service-call charge.
For standard nonmember appointments, our diagnostic/service-call fee is $69–$89, with the applicable amount disclosed when scheduling. The standard fee is payable even if you decline a repair and is not credited toward repair charges. If you have a membership, ask the office to confirm the service-call rate under your current agreement.
A replacement estimate is a different conversation
System replacement estimates are free. The goal is to assess the proposed installation and explain equipment options and scope. If you also want an existing breakdown diagnosed, make that clear so the office can explain any separate diagnostic charge before the visit.
Prepare these details
- Your address and the rooms affected.
- Whether you have a furnace, heat pump or another system, if known.
- The symptom and when it began.
- Whether the equipment is in an attic, closet or on the roof.
- Any access instructions, pets or scheduling limitations.
You do not have to identify the failed part. A plain description is enough. Keep access paths clear and have prior invoices available if they relate to the problem.
For a suspected gas leak, fire or CO alarm, leave and call emergency services rather than waiting for a routine service appointment. For other urgent heating issues, call us; dispatch depends on technician availability.
